Australian Independent Radio News delivers bulletins via FTP or FILE TRANSFER PROTOCOL.

This is an Internet industry standard procedure and there is only one way that clients will be able to access the AIR News database and download each bulletin.

Many of our network stations run automated download software to pick up the hourly news plus all the other special features that we deliver. This makes it easy for you to pick up the latest news bulletin and simply get the software to slot it into the appropriate directory where your on air presentation system would expect to find it. The news then is delivered as if it is presented live.

We have now established a mirror server so that client stations can be assured of our news availability at all times. Should our main server go offline for whatever reason we have a secondary server ready to take over. It's all part of our backing of our professional products.

PYROBATCH FTP - This is our recommended automated download manager for AIR News client stations. It is the most reliable package we have used to date. Not only do we recommend PyrobatchFTP, we also support it for our clients within Australia.

MANUAL INTERVENTION
There are a great many FTP client software packages available and it is not our position to advise clients to download or purchase any particular software. Some that you may search for and consider (via the Internet) are:

CORE FTP - available free to individual users
CUTE FTP
FETCH - for MAC users
FILEZILLA
FTP EXPLORER
FTP SURFER
FTP VOYAGER
LEECH FTP
WS FTP
FIREFTP - For use within Firefox browser

These will all do the job of downloading the audio files using the FTP protocol, however in each case it requires manual intervention, in other words one of your people logs on each hour and downloads the appropriate files for broadcast.

AUTOMATIC OPERATION
There are also a number of very good software packages which will automatically download and deliver the audio files to your on-air computer. Again we recommend none, except to mention them. That said we provide ongoing support for the PyrobatchFTP software.

3D FTP (We have noted server issues with this software)
ROBOFTP
AUTO FTP PREMIUM
GETRIGHT - Came recommended by MJM Software - manufacturers of the MJM Player
FTP SCHEDULER PLUS
CONCORD FTP

There are many more, this is a sample. If you have the knowledge the ideal situation is to write your own process and schedule it using the Windows scheduler. As noted at the top of this page, we are now supporting the use of PyrobatchFTP by many of our clients and for a small fee will write the appropriate download scripts for you to use. This includes not only the correct script for download, but also error-checking systems to ensure that your server is not down and that the file is available. Don't hesitate to talk to us if you feel this would be a help.

We are looking at the viability of a number of other options, including live streaming of the news and sport, and delivery via satellite.

Any variations will be some time off.
